“How would I survive? fuck a mom you meant more, life coach and mentor, just a grim thought makes my skin crawl”
That second verse, wow!
Although the other two verses are of quality, the second verse just hits you.
It. Hits. Close. To. Home.
I’ve shed tears. This song is beautiful.
Joe and his mother Faye are close. Joe has gone on record and even called her his best friend. When he saw his mother struggling in dealing with her dying mother, he nearly lost it.
He pictured himself in the same scenario but with his mother was dying. He was freaked out. He couldn’t and/or didn’t want to imagine that. He wouldn’t be able to go on. They’d have to take him too.
His mother was more than a parent. She was a teacher, a father, an example, etc. she was there during his darkest and his brightest days. She helped get him sober. She guided him and acted as the father figure while his real father was incarcerated.
In short, Joe owes his mother his life; see “Calm Down” for proof. Even Joe will admit that.
I’ve thought about me in the same scenario, and I’d be similar to Joe. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
